Inclusion and SEND at Newport Primary
At Newport Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do.
We are proud to serve a diverse community and believe that every child should feel valued, supported and able to succeed regardless of their background, starting point or individual needs.
Our approach extends beyond Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We recognise that barriers to learning can arise from many factors, including language acquisition, social and emotional needs, attendance, mobility, family circumstances and disadvantage. Through high-quality teaching, strong pastoral support and effective partnerships with families, we work to remove barriers and ensure every pupil can thrive.
Understanding Our Community
Newport Primary School serves a highly diverse community.
Our pupils include:
- Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Pupils who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- Newly arrived pupils joining throughout the school year
- Pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
- Children experiencing disadvantage and other barriers to learning
Our inclusive approach is designed to ensure every pupil feels a sense of belonging and can access a broad, ambitious curriculum.
How We Support Pupils

Support is reviewed regularly through a cycle of Assess, Plan, Do and Review.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We celebrate the rich linguistic and cultural diversity within our school community.
We recognise that bilingualism is a strength and that pupils’ first languages play an important role in learning and development. Our EAL provision focuses on helping pupils acquire English while remaining fully included within school life and the wider curriculum.
New arrivals receive a structured induction programme, language assessment and support appropriate to their level of English proficiency.
