At Newport Primary School, we believe that pupils make the best progress when they attend school regularly and engage in high-quality, face-to-face learning. Remote education is not considered a substitute for attendance in school and will only be used in exceptional circumstances.
Remote education may be provided when:
- The school is unable to open safely due to unforeseen circumstances or local/national guidance.
- A pupil is unable to attend school for a temporary period due to medical reasons, but is well enough to engage with learning.
- Other exceptional circumstances are agreed between the school, parents/carers and, where appropriate, external professionals.
Requests for remote education will be considered on a case-by-case basis. When arrangements are made, we will work closely with families to ensure pupils can continue their learning whilst remaining connected to their class and curriculum.
Where remote education is provided, we will:
- Provide access to appropriate learning as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Ensure learning is aligned, where possible, to the curriculum being taught in school.
- Make reasonable adjustments to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.
- Maintain communication with pupils and families to support engagement and wellbeing.
- Review arrangements regularly and support pupils to return to full-time education at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
For pupils with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, a social worker, or other involved professionals, the school will work collaboratively with families and relevant agencies to ensure appropriate support is in place.
Remote education will not be used as an alternative to suspension or exclusion and will not replace formal attendance requirements.
