Newport works on lots of exciting projects with many different partners! Over the past few years we have been working on art projects with Dr Julian Lawrence, an award-winning Canadian cartoonist who is the Senior Lecturer in Graphic Novels and Sequential Arts at Teesside University.

Julian has worked with our children to explore ideas around telling stories and narratives in pictures in various different forms and has now used his experiences at Newport to produce a report on the subject. This has now been published in an international academic journal which will be seen across the whole world!

When Julian realised that Mr. Murray in Year 5 also used to be a cartoonist and illustrator before his teaching days he invited him to collaborate on the research project to give his perspective on how using comic books and graphical narratives can help develop children's abilities in literacy.
